Salvador Domènec Felip Jacint Dalí i Domènech, more commonly known as Salvador Dalí, was born on May 11th, 1904 in a place called Figueres, near Barcelona in Spain. Salvador had one brother, also called Salvador, who died at the age of five from a stomach flu, nine months before Salvador was born. He also had one sister, Ana María. After attending drawing school, Dalí’s talent became very apparent and his first exhibition was held shortly after his twelfth birthday. Dalí went on to become one of the world’s most recognised artists, mainly due to his very strange art style, known as surrealism. This ‘art movement’ proved very popular and Dalí soon became one of the 20th Century’s most colourful and eccentric artists.
