THE CREAKING OF THE FLOORBOARDS ALERTED ME. I SHOT UP OUT OF BED BUT THEN FROZE IN FEAR …

The creaks never woke me before, but this was louder than usual. I suddenly felt a breeze on the back of my neck and I started to get a bit more scared. As I worked up my courage to go down stairs and see what was going on, I grabbed my baseball bat. I slowly crept down the stairs. As I approached the kitchen, I heard a rustle coming from inside. I held my baseball bat up. As I walked into the kitchen, I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. I felt more scared than I had ever been before. I had my eyes focused on one corner of the kitchen where I saw whatever was there move. I didn’t make a sound and stood completely still to see if it would move again. I started to hear some noises and then, whatever was there, jumped at me, knocked me over and I let out a big scream. A few seconds later I saw mom, dad and my baby brother burst through the door. They saw me sprawled on the ground with Clio our puppy licking my face.  I was so happy it wasn’t a brain scooping, eye eating, finger licking alien.

I stood there in terror, my heart racing at 100 miles per hour. I just didn’t know what to do. I rushed downstairs to see if anyone was awake. But no-one was. I decided to hurry back upstairs to get my parents. I opened the door to see my little sister Kelly crying. I looked outside to see both the cars gone. Kelly grabbed her stuffed animal to hit the intruder. I thought it was cute but it wasn’t time for that.

I grabbed the frying pan from the kitchen and went back up to Kelly in mum and dad’s room. We heard the footsteps again. They came closer and closer. When they were opening the door I was ready to hit them and show them who’s boss!!!

Then when the door opened, I couldn’t believe who it was...

... as I saw a large and looming creature, its shadow even larger. I tried to creep towards the door but as the creature saw me, it flicked a branch and the door slammed shut and the key turned itself in the lock. As my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room I realized it wasn’t a creature at all, it was a person with long black curly hair, grey eyes, teeth as black as her hair, very pale skin and mouth turned into a sinister smile. She was wearing a black dress with high boots she was not however holding a branch as I had thought, but rather a birch twig fashioned into a witch’s wand like in storybooks. I felt all my power drain from me, and I fainted. I woke up in a cave, over a bubbling cauldron filled with green slime. My hair was starting to singe as I was inches away from the cauldron. Someone burst in, he also had a wand. He flicked his wand and I flew to the floor. They started duelling and as a spell came my way I dived out of the way…
