September's Diary of a First Year

15 September 2016 | Posted under

Hi, guys! My name is Abbie. I’m twelve years old and this year I started in first year in the Royal School, in Cavan town. I love trampolining, reading and writing.

Before starting First Year, I felt a mixture of nervousness, excitement and just wishing the holidays weren’t over yet! My old school had sixty pupils, and my new school has two hundred, which seemed intimidating.

It was also back to early starts and strict routines. Five out of nine pupils in my old sixth class started at the Royal with me, so I was lucky!

On the first day, we all walked into school together, and were led to a big hall for prayers. Here we met the other people in our class and our new headmaster. Everyone seemed interesting and fun, but we didn’t get a chance to talk right away- we were split into two groups: 1R and 1S. My friends and I all looked at each other, scared of being split up, but in the end I was put in 1R with my friend Louise, and our other friends Holly, Bethany and Jacob were in 1S.

The rest of the day was a blur of meeting new teachers, getting to know each other, exploring the school and receiving our shiny new school journals. Overall, we made a great start! It seemed very scary to begin with, but it was much better than we ever expected!

I can’t wait to update you all on how the first month goes. See you next month!
