I should begin with a confession. One of my all-time favourite movies is a film called Homeward Bound. It tells the story of an epic journey taken by three house pets to find their families. So, when I stumbled upon A Dog’s Way Home, I knew this would be right up my street.
Written by New York Times bestselling author W. Bruce Cameron and Cathryn Michon, this movie chronicles the life of adorable Bella (voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard) and her owner Lucas (Jonah Hauer-King) and his mom (Ashley Judd).
From their first meeting, to all the fun times they spend together, Bella and Lucas literally become the best of friends. However, when Bella is forced to chase away a particularly troublesome squirrel, she suddenly finds herself many, many miles from home. Sad and lonely for her pal Lucas, Bella decides that she must get back to her home and sets out on an epic 400-mile journey!
What ensues is a bittersweet tale of adventure and resilience that truly shows us (as if there was ever any doubt) that dogs really are a man’s best friend.
Anyone who has ever loved a dog will love this movie, anyone who has ever had a best friend will love this movie … anyone who has a heart will love this movie.
