Never has an animated movie caused so much controversy before its release.
Having waited years for their first major movie version of the 90s gaming phenomenon, fans of Sonic the Hedgehog were rather appalled at what they saw when the first movie trailer dropped back in April 2019.
Expecting to see a version very close to that of the gaming character, they were, instead, met with a very odd-looking and rather haggard blue hedgehog. In fact, such was the negative reaction, Paramount, the makers of the movie, pushed back the date of release so their animators could completely redesigned Sonic. Now that’s fan power!
So, who is this Sonic you speak of?
Sonic is a spiky-haired blue hedgehog who runs at high speeds collecting gold rings, all the while evading the evil scientist Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey in the movie). He was first introduced to us in Sonic the Hedgehog – a SEGA video game, released in 1991.
This movie might not be to everyone’s taste but, rest assured, the millions of fans of Sonic the Hedgehog (video game) will flock to see it.
Sonic – so good, they made him twice!
