The Homelessness Crisis

In this month's Have Your Say, we want to get you talking.

Actually, more than talking, we want to get you discussing, thinking and arguing (but in a productive manner), so that you can air your views on matters of the world. And if you don’t have views on such matters, now is the time to start. Have your say!

This month’s topic: The Homelessness Crisis in Ireland.

Read the article on p.4 of National News and consider these statements:

  1. Why can’t the government use all the empty houses built during the boom?
  2. Get a job so that you can afford to pay rent.
  3. It is the right of every human being to have a roof over their head.
  4. Build apartment blocks in green areas and move all the homeless people out to them.
  5. Provide safe shelter for the homless.
  6. It is their own fault.

In class groups, or in pairs, discuss the above statements and see how you feel about this crisis. Have your say about what, if anything, can be done about it.
