Acrostic Poems

We want your poems -- long, short, exciting, sad, fun, scary, unbelievable, thrilling ... so we can share them with all our News Flash readers.

This week's challenge is to compose (write) an acrostic poem. With an acrostic poem, the first letter of each line spells out a word or words (going downwards) that you are basing your poem on.

What to do:

1. You can type your poem in the comment box below.

2. Click here to download your poetry worksheet

3. Ask your parents to help you send your stories to win@newsflash.ie

Today's words are: STAYING AT HOME

Here's one we wrote:

STAY AT HOME

Stay at home we are told

Til the Taoiseach says to go

All we do every day is

Yell and laugh and shout and play

All the time we miss our friends

To see them once would make amends

Have to listen though to what they say

Or Leo might pop by one day

Mr Smith, why was your son

Even trying to disobey, that's really not on!
