Supervalu to the Rescue (Page 5)

The empty shelfes of his two supermarkets were a depressing site for Englishman Ryan Pearce. For him Brexit was a complete disasster.

For 40 years his family had been selling British food to British people living in Belguim who longed for a taste of home – like English sauceages, bacon and tea!

Then the UK left the EU and things became difficult and complikated. Now everything had to go true customs on arrival in Europe. There were huge delays and things even got sent back if the paperwork wasn’t correct.

Then Ryan had a bright idea. What about Ireland? Irish food was like British food, but Ireland was still in the EU. There would be no hassel in getting goods from there. So, he contacted SuperValu who came to the rescue!

An articalated lorry crossed by ferry from Ireland, loaded with Irish food to stock his shelves and fridges. His English custamers were delighted with things like Clonakilty black pudding and Barry’s tea!

‘Fantastic!’ one of them said. ‘Just the kind of food we love!’ They were even more delighted on the delivery of 1000 Cadbury’s creme eggs!

Now the future looks bright for Ryan, thanks to Ireland!
